Who We Are
Portland Shellfish is a multi-generation family-owned shellfish merchant. We supply live and cooked shellfish to customers throughout the United Kingdom and Continental Europe.
We strive to supply our customers with the very best shellfish available from British Waters.
Where we are
The company is located in Portland Dorset. We moved to the old naval dockyard in 1997. The attraction being access to clean water with a stable salinity perfect for holding live Crab, Lobster and Langoustine.
Our unique position on the Dorset coast allows us to source shellfish – particularly crab and lobster – from the breadth of the English Channel.
Direct to you
We started as a trade-only business but we now have a thriving direct-to-consumer business delivering shellfish to your door
Restaurants and Hotels
Our trade customer base includes restaurants and hotels throughout the United Kingdom. We have a strong presence in London where we deliver to customers directly from our base in Portland every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Customers outside of London are serviced using next day couriers Tuesday to Friday inclusive.
Delivery to France, Belgium and Germany
Our continental customers are supplied every Tuesday and Thursday from Boulogne-sur-Mer, subject to travel restrictions.
Sustainability
Working in a sustainable way is good for the marine environment and good for business. Minimum size limits, using static gear catching methods (potting) ensure there is shellfish available for today and tomorrow. We work under the byelaws of Southern IFCA.
Accreditation
We have worked really hard to achieve third party accreditation for our business.
We take food safety and hygiene seriously and we are rigorously inspected and are proud to show our certifications.
In addition, our local authority (Weymouth and Portland Borough Council) have awarded us Food Standard Agency, food hygiene rating 5.
